One Month old already???

I can't believe how fast time is going! Kellen is one month old as of yesterday. The last couple of weeks have gone by in a blur. Kellen continues to grow and change almost daily. Last Saturday, Grandma Dee decided it was time that I got out of the house, so she went shopping with Kellen and I. Kellen was so good...he slept the entire time and was such an angel, even though we went past his feeding time by just a bit. Then Grandma Dee watched Kellen so that mommy and daddy could go out on a date.

We had a very fun week this week. I decided that I was brave enough to venture out of the house alone with Kellen. We had lunch with aunt Amanda and cousin Madison...of course Kellen slept the whole time, but it was nice for me to get some adult time. With Matt working so much during tax season I am desperate for some adult time. We also went and visited the girls at my work. It was fun to see them and they all loved Kellen! :) Kathy gave Kellen a onsie for St. Patrick's day...I can't wait to see him wear it! :) I will have to see if I can find some matching sock! :)

Kellen is getting better at tummy time, but loves it more when he gets to sleep on his tummy on mommy or daddy's chest. I think that he has already learned how to get his way. He will be sound asleep and then we will try to lay him down in his bed and he will wake up with in a few minutes. We have decided that he does not like the cold bed! :)

It is so amazing to just sit and watch him. He has so many faces that he makes and the sounds that come out of him are so funny! He is such a good baby. We are so blessed! It is so amazing the feeling that now surrounds me. The love that surrounds Kellen is amazing. People that work with my mom have been so kind and have sent a few little gifts and someone donated money to the school that she works at in honor of Kellen's birth. Great Aunt Georgene sent a CD to us this week and Kellen LOVES it. He really likes music. 2nd cousin Gina sent the cutest blanket and outfits. I can't wait to see him in them. They also sent mommy some fun scrapbooking stuff that I can't wait to use.

Kellen loves bath time and even has fallen asleep in the bath. My mom says that she does not know of a child that will do that. Maybe it is all the baths I took while I was pregnant to help with all the aches and pains of pregnancy. Below is a video of Kellen hanging out and it almost looks like he his trying to dance to the music! :)

What to do...

So for as long as I can remember I have always wanted a baby with a ton of hair. Well Kellen has just that. Before he was born I made a comment about how I wanted it to stick up...well if you can imagine I actually combed his hair down in the above picture...as soon as it was totally dry it was sticking straight up! :) I love it!!!

I have been enjoying my time with Kellen each day. It amazes me how fast he is growing. He is beginning to get a belly, it is too cute. Yesterday we tried "tummy time" and as you can see below it did not go very well. I will keep trying, but Kellen is living up to the meaning of his name..."strong willed". He seems to do things on his own time.

Last night he went from 9 pm to 4 am without eating...now if we could just get him to sleep that whole time. He didn't go to sleep till almost midnight. He is a night owl just like his Daddy. He is still loving his baths. Each day I am amazed at how much his personality is starting to show. Grandma Dee says that he is going to be a lot like Matt. He is my little man...I don't think that I ever knew that a love like this existed.

Week #2

Time is going so fast. Kellen is growing each day and I can't believe how much he has changed in such a short time. Last week he had is 2 week visit at the pediatrician's. She said that he is perfect (I happen to think so too, but I may be a little biased). He weighed in at 10 pounds 6 ounces and grew 1/2 inch...making him 22.75 inches long. My mom didn't see him all week and can't believe how much he has changed. He has taken on some of his daddy's traits such as he is making sounds all the time, while eating, sleeping, and any other time. He grunts and coos all the time. He also seems to be a heater just like his daddy...he sweats so much! He also seems to be a snuggle bug, just like his daddy. We think that he will have blue eyes (like mommy)...they seem to be getting bluer every day. This week he got to meet Grandma Marquitta. She doesn't want to put him down! Our days are filled with eating, napping, and changing diapers. The cats seem to be adjusting well to Kellen. Holly likes to sit in the glider in his room. Skyler has learned to share mommy with Kellen too. Here are a few pictures from this weekend.

First week home!

Welcome to world of laundry every day, diaper changes, sleeping in intervals of about 3-5 hours, learning to do things with one hand, deciphering different sounds, and loving every minute of it. The first week home has been so wonderful. Matt and I have spent hours just looking at Kellen and laughing at the different looks and sounds that he makes. Kellen has a very expressive face and we have many pictures of the different faces of Kellen. In the last week, we made our first pediatrician visit, gave Kellen his first Bath, and made our first outing to Target. The first two went very well, but the last one was a little stressful for me! :) I ended up leaving my stuff with my mom and going to the car with Kellen! In his first visit to the Dr, he gained 3 oz and received his first shot. He did really well he screamed for 3 seconds and then was all better. Kellen liked his first bath...he cried when we took him out and was drying him off. I have a feeling he will be like his daddy and really enjoy baths. Thank you to all of our friends and family that have called, stopped by, and dropped dinner off to us. It has been so helpful and we have not had to worry about much. Uncle Chris came by and visited and fed Kellen his lunch and brought some goodies for us. Sarah and Glenn dropped by with dinner and Kellen had an accident on Glenn. Poor Glenn! Allison and Daniel dropped by with Carson and dinner for us. Carson was too cute and giggling up a storm. I have a feeling that Kellen and Carson will be fast friends as the grow up! :) I have enjoyed my time staying with Kellen and watching him grow. I know that my time at home will go fast and Kellen will grow up before my eyes. Matt went back to work last Wednesday and my mom was able to hang out with us for the rest of the week. Grandma Dee moved last weekend and now lives only about three minutes away! It has been a busy week and we are learning new things every day.

Kellen's Birth Story

So now that we are settled and kind of in a routine I am finally finding some time to write about Kellen's birth. Last Tuesday on January 27, 2009, we went to the Dr for another ultrasound and check up. We also knew that today was the day that we would be making a decision about going natural or going for a c-section. At this point in time we had already discussed everything and knew that we were leaning towards a c-section for safety concerns for Kellen and for me. We had the ultrasound first and met with the Dr, he let us know that the estimated weight for Kellen was 11 lbs 11 oz. His recommendation was a c-section because the baby was measuring so large. So then on to talk with the midwife. She spoke with the ultrasound Dr and they discussed Kellen's size and his recommendation. I was at peace with this decision and no longer felt like I was failing or getting the short end of the deal as far as this is not the birth plan that I had in mind. I was more concerned about Kellen's safety and excited about meeting my son. Sherry, our midwife, spoke with my Dr (who happens to be on maternity leave and only seeing a few patients, but not handling any births). So Sherry came in and told us that Dr Scieneaux was speaking with the Dr that was covering her for c-sections. So we waited and waited, while waiting I called work and said I was coming back, but was just waiting for a date for our c-section (at this point I was thinking later in the week not that day). Dr Scieneaux walked in and said okay...Dr Reynolds will be performing your c-section and she is at Northside today already doing one and has said that she will add us in (everything she said kind of went in one ear and out the other as I was digesting the fact I was going to meet Kellen in only a couple of hours). So then once again I called work and said "So I am coming back, but only to clear my desk and say goodbye." We left there and everything was a whirlwind. I went back to work and handed out all the work on my desk, ran home finished packing my bags, and took a quick shower. On the way there Matt and I just laughed...Kellen's birth was nothing like what we planned. We had not toured the hospital were we were to give birth, we had no clue who the Dr was, and we had not known that when we woke up that day we would be meeting our son.

Once we got to the hospital we checked in and waited for a room. Then once we got a room the waiting began. We kept getting bumped since there were a few emergency c-sections and then Dr Reynolds went into another surgery before ours. So we waited and finally when it was time it went so fast that I can't remember all the details. The anesthesiologist came in and gave me the epidural and then all of a sudden it was go, go, go. Soon I was in the OR and the anesthesiologist was saying, "would you believe me if I told you they already started." I was having a hard time focusing on anything, because I was trying really hard to not have a panic attack...I was becoming so claustrophobic from all the stuff around my face. I was trying to focus on the birth of my son. Then before I knew it Matt was standing up taking pictures of Kellen and then I heard him cry. Then in a matter of minutes Matt and Kellen were gone and I was alone with everyone sewing me up and I felt like I was floating...the anesthesiologist said he gave me a strong margarita. :) Not to much longer I was in the recovery room with Kellen and Matt and trying to focus on things so that I could see Kellen and see what he looks like. Since I had planned a natural birth I had not done a lot of research on the side effects from the epidural...my body would not stop shaking...it was a little scary. Before I knew it I was in our room and waiting for Kellen to join us so that finally I could hold him for the first time. Finally he was there and I got to hold him and the events of the day could not have had a better ending. He was finally here and he was healthy and I was healthy and that was all that mattered. My heart melted and I fell in love with the little man we call Kellen!
